Bagels and Books explores faith, science, and mysticism

The Bagels & Books selection for February 4, 2012, chosen by Ken Davies, is a novel entitled Lying Awake, by Mark Salzman. “Mysticism meets modern medicine in this intriguing story of a nun’s dark night of the soul. Sister John of the Cross, a Carmelite nun in a monastery just outside Los Angeles, seeks treatment for epilepsy, although the remedy threatens to diminish her formidable spiritual powers.” (from Publishers Weekly).

A Christian Life: Faith and ethics in our world

What are Christian ethics? How do we make decisions that honor our faith and the gifts and talents we have been given? Tim Keller and Brian McLaren provide two decidedly different perspectives on these questions and many more. Using two study series, Keller’s  Gospel In Life and McLaren’s Everything Must Change,  we will examine a variety of faithful responses to the pressures and concerns of our current contexts.

This series of discussions will be held during our Formation Hour (Sundays 9:30 am- 10:20 am). All are welcome.

According to All Saints' By-Laws, the Vestry appoints a committee to nominate candidates for up-coming Vestry vacancies. Thanks to those who served this year (Sue Appuzo, Michelle Grant, Diane Cavanaugh, and Sharon Mazzola), with Chet Logan as chairman.
A separate committee ( the wardens and rector) were entrusted with selecting a nominee to fill a Warden vacancy.
