The Sunday School at All Saints’ allows
for great interaction between the teachers, students, and clergy. We hope parents and interested
members of the congregation will join in helping out at some point during the school year; please consider spending some time
with the children either in a teaching or non-teaching role. If you have questions about Sunday School, please don’t
hesitate to be in touch with any of member of the Sunday School team.
Sunday School for 2007-2008 will be led by Pam,
Borowiec, Susan Fischer, Susan Hartzell and Ginny
Loughlin. Over the summer, we did some planning and reviewed the curriculum. All
Saints' will continue using the Mustard Seed Series, the curriculum we've used since last winter. It’s
flexible, engaging and well-paced to our liturgical calendar. With a few teachers taking a well-deserved
rest this year, some adjustments were made in teacher/class scheduling. We’re enthusiastic about
these changes to the program and look forward to spending time with your children, exploring and learning about our faith.
The general pattern each month will be as follows: 1st Sunday of the month – Children in
church or cooking for coffee hour (no Sunday School) 2nd and 3rd Sundays - Sunday School
held in age groups, as outlined below 4th Sundays - “One Room Schoolhouse” with
all children meeting together in the parish hall for a themed project. One of our goals for this year is to provide the
congregation with more information throughout the school year. With that in mind, below is
a synopsis of the curriculum in the classes, as well as a Sunday School schedule for September through December.
First, a word about Nursery Care. Nursery care
is provided on Sunday mornings for children through age three. The Nursery opens at 9:50 am and is available throughout the
10:00 am service. Children should be picked up after the service ends. This year, the location will be the first classroom
on the left as you enter the Parish Hall from the parking lot (Classroom #1). If you would like your child to receive Communion
(all baptized Christians are welcome to receive the sacrament, regardless of age) or a blessing, feel free to take him or
her out of the nursery in time to join you at the Communion rail. Sunday School begins at 10:00 am. Children enter
the church at The Peace to sit with their parents and join them for Communion. A brief description of the
curriculum for each class level is presented below; in December all classes will move from Old Testament to Advent lessons.
Pre K (4’s) through 1st Grade
-- Teacher: Pam Borowiec In the fall term, our early
primary students will learn about God through special people in Old Testament times. The children will explore
the stories of Moses, David and Goliath, and Jonah, and also learn about prayer through the life of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Storytime, Bible reading, prayer, discussion, and art activities will be some of the ways the children will be encouraged
to see and learn new things about God. --Meet in Classroom #2 (second classroom on left, entering
the Parish Hall from the parking lot).
2nd through 4th Grade
-- Teacher: Susan Hartzell
Each member of this class will be learning from their
own Bible this fall. They will work on personalizing their Bibles and becoming familiar with its format
and stories of faith, beginning with a focus on the early chapters of Genesis. These children will explore
their relationship with God through the stories of Creation through Cain and Abel. -- Meet in Classroom #3 (third classroom on left as you
enter the Parish Hall from parking lot). 5th through 8th Grade
-- Teachers: Ginny
Loughlin & Susan Fischer This class will be reading from the Old Testament throughout
the fall, learning about the nature of God through the life of Moses. The themes explored will include
leadership, faithfulness, loss and trust. We will follow the Israelites from their time in Egypt, into
the wilderness and across the Jordan River. -- Meet in the Community Room, located in the hallway
across from the kitchen. High School ** As with last year, before we make plans for our High
School students, we want input! Parents and high school students are welcome to contact Ginny Loughlin (GvHL@aol.com) with their thoughts for ways in which they'd like to be involved. We can
hold film nights, Sunday morning meetings or you might want to consider being an assistant in one of the Sunday School
classes for younger students. Let us know!
